GCHS Alp Angel's Faggia Dell'albera CGC

Faggia is one of those dogs who may come along only once in a lifetime. She had that rare combination of beautiful movement, charisma, confidence, and presence that made people notice her.

Born from our “F” litter, the first litter we bred from Amira, Faggia brought something new to our program: a true love of the show ring. She genuinely enjoyed showing. She would light up when it was time to go into the ring, almost as if she understood that it was her job. Her partnership with her handler, Amanda Shea, was something very special, and the two of them together will always hold a particular place in my heart.

Faggia helped break the Bergamasco glass ceiling in AKC competition. Her photograph is even displayed at the AKC Museum of the Dog in New York City. Over the course of her career she earned nearly 200 Best of Breed wins, more than 50 Herding Group placements, two Group wins, and became a Top 40 Herding Dog. She also won Best of Breed at Westminster four times. For five straight years, Alp Angel dogs held the breed win there, with Faggia taking four of those victories and her sister Freya winning the remaining year over her.

Now retired, Faggia is enjoying her golden years, but her influence on the breed remains. She was a record-setting and record-breaking Bergamasco who helped judges begin to see the breed as capable of competing for larger wins, not simply as a novelty in the ring. She helped open that door, and the dogs who followed benefited from it
